5 Essential Oils for Hair Growth

Most ladies use carrier oils regularly in their hair journey to seal their hair after moisturizing.  But for those who aren’t aware of the difference between carrier oils versus essential oils, let’s start with some basic explanation of the differences.  Carrier oils are called so because essential oils are usually diluted in them to do just that – “carry” the essential oil into your scalp to help assist the treatment. Some great carrier oils are coconut (read benefits here) and grapeseed (benefits of) for example.  Carrier oils are typically derived from nuts and is extracted through cold pressing.  Essential oils are are extracted or distilled from various parts of plants and trees, such as flowers, fruits, leaves, stem, roots or bark.  Due to their potency, it is recommended to never apply essential oils to the skin or scalp directly.

Essential oils used to be much more expensive, but now you can order a great set like the one above for under $30!!!  That’s fourteen amazing essential oils for approximately $2 per bottle!  There are many essential oils that are great for hair growth and they often share several properties:

  • Stimulate hair growth
  • Antiseptic, antibacterial, antifungal
  • Improves circulation
  • Help with dandruff
  • Soothe irritated scalp
  • Decrease inflammation

Personally I use eucalyptus and tea tree oils most often to treat my itchy scalp, particularly while protective styling.  I also use them on my little cousin’s scalp since she has dry skin, and they work immediately to rid her scalp of flakes!  I also like the scent of both of these oils but I’ve also used rosemary, lavender and grapefruit oils for scalp massages and adding fragrance to my whipped shea butter.  Aside from using the essential oils for your scalp massage you can also add them to your favorite conditioners for extra benefits.  You can experiment a bit to find your favorite oil, but here are five great essential oils for hair growth you should definitely consider!
